# Cortex AI platform developer guide

Discover Cortex app releases, agent tools, authentication, and public documentation access.

## Apps, agents, and resources

Cortex apps have user interfaces and can own backend functions, tables, and connections. Apps and platform resources use direct releases. Agents have tools, instructions, and skills in their own versioned repositories. Agent changes can open reviews. Real API, MCP, and database connections must be configured with appropriate permissions before an app or agent can use them.

## Authentication and tenant integrations

The platform gateway exposes POST /mcp for tenant integrations using an active service-account Bearer access token. Its tool list is derived from that service account's grants. Obtain the gateway address and credentials from your tenant administrator; the public marketing hostname is not your tenant gateway. Never place tokens in URLs, prompts, public repositories, or website metadata. No public anonymous tenant API or downloadable SDK is advertised here.

## Public documentation MCP

This website exposes /mcp as a separate, read-only Streamable HTTP documentation server. Initialize it using JSON-RPC, then call tools/list and tools/call. The cortex_read_page tool accepts a published page path such as /docs/ and returns its Markdown. The cortex_list_pages tool lists available pages. No account or API key is needed for these public documents. It cannot create apps, run agents, or access tenant data. GET returns 405 because this stateless server does not offer an SSE stream.

## Agent discovery

Read /llms.txt for the curated documentation index and /agent-instructions.md for when to use Cortex. Every published content page supports Accept: text/markdown and has an index.md alternative. HTML remains the default for browsers. The /.well-known/mcp file is a site-specific discovery hint pointing to the documentation server; it is not an official MCP manifest standard or a claim of registry verification.
